The Northeast Mission Business Association, NEMBA, represents the best interests of businesses in the area bounded by Capp Street, 13th Street, Potrero Avenue and 20th Street. Our mission is to attract, develop, support, and retain businesses in our area. The greater our numbers, the stronger our voice and influence are at City Hall. Your participation and membership are vital to the success of these efforts.
Our Regular monthly meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month, from 4:30 to 5:30pm.*
* Please note: Our monthly meetings are temporarily on hold while San Francisco’s COVID-19 shelter in place directives are in effect. We will send out a group announcement when we have our next meeting scheduled.

Doug MacNeil has been the owner of Spiral Binding since 1982. A graduate of St Mary’s College with degrees in Economics and Business Administration, Doug chose to make the North East Mission a home to his business in 1994. He has been the President of NEMBA longer than it seems possible, and before that served as President of the Bay Area Bindery Association. Doug also served as Treasurer of the San Francisco Craftsmen Club. You might be more likely to find him at the next Giants’ game rather than in his office.
Gwen Kaplan founded NEMBA in 1990. In 1987 her business, ACE Mailing, was the winner of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In 1991, ACE Mailing was the winner of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Award. Gwen, ACE Mailing’s CEO and Founder was honored by the California State Legislature for her contributions to creating an improved entrepreneurial environment in the State. In 1991 Kaplan was named the Small Business Advocate of the Year for the State of California by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). She was the 2000 Chairperson of the San Francisco Small Business Network. She is a past president of the San Francisco Small Business Commission.
In 2000 Angela and her husband, Marty Takigawa moved to the North East Mission District and founded Sintak Studio, a photo and video rental studio. She also is an art conservator specializing in paintings and works on paper. Angela has been a member of NEMBA since 2000.
